Newberry ranked 13th in GolfStat rankingsThree Wolves in top 100 in individual rankings October 24, 2012 NEWBERRY - The Newberry College women's golf team is ranked 13th nationally in Division II in the latest GolfStat head-to-head rankings, released Wednesday. Three Wolves are in the top 100 nationally in the individual rankings, with one in the top 10. Newberry has had an impressive season so far this fall, claiming championships at the Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate and the Patsy Rendleman Invitational, where Newberry shot a school-record 294 in the opening round and broke the 600 barrier for the first time in program history for a 36-hole tournament. Barbara Castro (Coruna, Spain) is leading the Wolves after a career-best tournament at the Rendleman, where she earned medalist honors. Castro is tied for seventh nationally with an adjusted stroke average of 73.5. She has finished in the top five of all three tournaments this season. Lisa Brandl (Nuremberg, Germany) is rated 26th in the nation with an adjusted stroke average of 75.33 and Julia Daneshfar (Trophy Club, Texas) is tied for 76th with an adjusted stroke average of 77.0. The Wolves are one of two South Atlantic Conference teams in the top 25, with Lincoln Memorial ranked 23rd. Newberry is the sixth-highest ranked team in the highly competitive South Region. Newberry has one more tournament remaining this fall, competing at Furman's Lady Paladin Invitational this Friday through Sunday. The Wolves will face off against 10 Division I teams, Division II's top-rated team in Nova Southeastern and NAIA's top-rated team in SCAD Savannah. |
