Parrish, Browning make mark in Newberry record booksOctober 10, 2012
NEWBERRY - Newberry College volleyball players Samantha Parrish and Blair Browning have made their mark in the school's record books, taking over top spots in the Newberry record books this season. With her 15th kill in Newberry's win over Catawba on Saturday, Parrish (Angola, Ind.) notched her 1,000th collegiate kill. She is only the third player in Newberry history to eclipse the 1,000-kill mark in a career and the first to do so prior to her senior season. Following Tuesday's win over Anderson, Parrish now has 1,023 kills and sits just six kills away from second place all-time (Cara Coleman, 1,028 kills from 2004-07) and 157 kills from taking the school record from Lorena Maia (1,180 kills from 2006-09). Earlier in the season, Browning (New Lexington, Ohio) passed the 2,000 assist mark for her career, becoming just the fourth Newberry player to reach that honor. She now stands in third place all-time at Newberry with 2,372 career assists. Brianna Blakely (2007-10) is in second with 2,861 assists and Aubrey Mosley (2000-03) tops the charts with 4,097 kills in her career. |
