Wolves ranked 10th nationally in GolfWorld/WGCA poll and GolfStat rankings

NEWBERRY - The Newberry College women's golf team is ranked 10th nationally in both the GolfWorld/WGCA Coaches' Poll and the Division II GolfStat head-to-head rankings.

The Wolves moved up three spots in the coaches poll after earning the championship at the Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate and a seventh place finish in the rain-shortened Division II Fall Preview.

Newberry is the only South Atlantic Conference team in the top 25 of the coaches' poll and is the seventh-highest rated team from the highly competitive South Region in the GolfStat rankings. Newberry has the third-hardest strength of schedule in the top 10 and has competed against more top 25 teams than any of the top 10 schools. [GolfStat team rankings]

Barbara Castro (Coruna, Spain) is tied for 18th nationally in the individual rankings with an adjusted stroke average of 74.75, while Lisa Brandl (Nuremberg, Germany) is tied for 29th with a 75.25 adjusted stroke average.

The Wolves have two more fall tournaments, with the next coming on October 15-16 as Newberry looks to defend its 2011 title at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational hosted by Catawba in Salisbury, N.C.
