No. 13 Wolves tied for lead after first round of Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate

Brandl tied for third in competitive field

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - The 13th-ranked Newberry College Wolves women's golf team is tied for first place at the Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate at the Sevierville Golf Course after shooting a 304 in Monday's opening round.

Lisa Brandl (Nuremberg, Germany) leads the Wolves in a tie for third place after shooting a 3-over par 73 on the par 70, 5,811-yard course. Newberry's 304 places them in a tie for first place with No. 18 California (Pa.).

Barbara Castro (Coruna, Spain) shot a 5-over par 75 and is tied for seventh, while Julia Daneshfar (Trophy Club, Texas) shot a 7-over par 77 to sit in a tie for 12th. Eline Askeland (Oslo, Norway) is tied for 19th with a 9-over par 79 and Natalia Perez (Bogota, Colombia) is tied for 26th with a 10-over par 80. Korey Coleman (Stanford, Ky.) is competing as an individual and is tied for 36th with a 12-over par 82.

The Wolves and Vulcans hold a two stroke lead over Columbus State, a five stroke lead over West Florida and an eight stroke lead over Lincoln Memorial. No other team is within 10 strokes of Newberry.

Play will conclude with 18 holes Tuesday.
