Cox records clean sheet as Wolves draw Pacers 0-0
August 30, 2012
AIKEN – Newberry sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Cox put together a strong debut with the Wolves stopping ten shots as Newberry drew 0-0 after regulation and two overtimes with USC Aiken.
The Pacers outshot the Wolves throughout the match, finishing the evening with a 23-6 advantage. Of those 23 shots the Pacers placed 10 on frame, all of which were turned away by Cox (Perth, Western Australia, Australia).
The first half saw the Wolves take four shots, and place two on frame. The Wolves first opportunity came with 31 minutes remaining in the opening half when sophomore Brayden Miller (Lyman, S.C.) tested Pacers keeper Alli Edens with a shot on goal.
It was freshman Lauren Hensley (Fort Mill, S.C.) who next threatened Edens when Hensley placed a shot on frame with 14 minutes remaining in the opening half.
Miller was the only Newberry player to get a shot off in the second half, when she forced Edens to make her third save of the match.
The second half belonged to Cox, who recorded all ten of her saves in the period.
In addition to Hensley and Miller, sophomore Gabrielle Brody (Rolleston, Canterbury, New Zealand) and senior Amber Chase (Aiken, S.C.) both managed a shot each.
Newberry returns home on Saturday, when the Wolves play host to Bob Jones University at 4 p.m.
