Wrestling tops Super Region I preseason coaches poll

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College wrestling team sits atop the opening Super Region I coaches poll with 99 points. The Wolves have the No. 1 ranked grappler in four different weight classes and have one in the top four of every class.

National runner-up BJ Young (Jackson, N.J.) comes in No. 1 at 141 pounds. Connor McDonald (Rehoboth, Del.) is atop the rankings at 125 while Karl Reed (Mount Laurel, N.J.) (197) and Jake Elkins (Trussville, Ala.) (285) also received No. 1 rankings.

Three Wolves are rated second. Matt Oliver (Toms River, N.J.) was second at 133. Deral Brown (Elgin, S.C.) was second at 149 while Sean Byrnes (Jackson, N.J.) is ranked No. 2 at 165.

Taylor Knapp (Lawrenceville, Ga.), Travis Sheehy (Suwanee, Ga.) and Mitchell Brown (Omaha, Neb.) all were ranked fourth in their respective weight classes. Knapp will wrestle at 157, Sheehy will wrestle at 174 while Brown will take on the field at 184.
