Wolves add two transfers for 2010-11 seasonJuly 23, 2010Head coach Lauren McCants strengthens defending SAC Championship roster NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Newberry College women’s golf program and head coach Lauren McCants are pleased to announce the signing of two transfers for the upcoming 2010-11 campaign. Taylor Weaver (Spartanburg, S.C.) transfers to Newberry after two years at the University of South Carolina. A rising junior, Weaver competed in one tournament during the 2009-10 season finishing in 88th place at the Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship (81-80=161; +17). In 2008-09, Weaver participated in the three round LSU Golf Classic amassing a stroke total of 232 and finishing in 81st place. Playing as an amateur, Weaver qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur after notching an even par round of 71 at the Sapona Country Club in Lexington, N.C. Prior to her career at South Carolina, Weaver earned six varsity letters for Dorman High School and head coach Lewis Terry. Weaver won the individual title at the state tournament in 2007 with a record two round score of 145 (70-75). Taylor’s first round stroke total of 70 was also a state tournament record for an 18-hole low. Julia Daneshfar (Trophy Club, Texas) joins the Wolves after one year at Dallas Baptist University in Texas. A rising sophomore, Daneshfar participated in eight tournaments for the Patriots during the 2009-10 season totaling 17 rounds. Daneshfar picked up three top-25 individual placements and accumulated an average stroke total of 83.18. Weaver and Daneshfar join a Newberry women’s golf team coming off the most successful season in the history of the program that included a South Atlantic Championship, NCAA Super Regional appearance, and the smashing of every major school record during the course of the year. “[Weaver and Daneshfar] are going to be key pieces to add depth to our roster,” said McCants, “Both bring a great deal of tournament experience and knowledge regarding the game of golf.” |
