Clemente Martin named to DAKTRONICS All-Southeast Region Second Team
Senior wraps up career with first all-region honor

MORROW, Ga. - Newberry College senior forward Clemente Martin has been named to the 2009 DAKTRONICS All-Southeast Region second team, officials announced today.
The Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region Teams are voted on by the sports information directors of the Southeast Region. The region is comprised of the Conference Carolinas, the Peach Belt Conference, the South Atlantic Conference, Chowan University and North Greenville University.
Martin, a senior from Freeport, Bahamas, ends his career with his first all-region honor after being named a first team all-South Atlantic Conference representative for the last two seasons. He was also named to the All-SAC Tournament team on Sunday. He averaged 19.2 points per game in his senior season as well as pulling down 5.6 rebounds per game.
In his career, Martin scored 1,667 points, which ranks him 10th in Newberry College history and sixth in the history of the South Atlantic Conference. He equaled his career high of 32 points in the overtime win over Mars Hill that sent Newberry to the conference tournament semifinals and helped lead the team to a 21-8 record, marking the most wins the school has earned in 27 seasons.
Augusta State's Ben Madgen was named the Southeast Region Player of the Year. He is joined on the first team by Mount Olive's Kendrick Easley, USC Aiken's Chris Commons, Augusta State's Garret Siler and Tusculum's Kyle Moore.
Martin is joined on the second team by USC Aiken's Josh Dollard, Georgia College and State's Shaun Keaton, Brevard's Jonathan Whitson and Erskine's Brandon Wright.
