MARS HILL, N.C. - The Newberry College men's basketball team was outscored 13-7 in the overtime period, as the Indians fell to the Mars Hill Lions, 80-75, for their first conference loss of the season.

Newberry (6-5, 2-1 SAC) had its' winning streak snuffed at five games despite a 24-point effort from Zach Chandler (Greenville, S.C.), who went 5-of-5 from behind the arc in the first half.

Mars Hill (5-6, 1-1 SAC) was led by Jamison McIver, who scored 21 points and grabbed five rebounds.

Both teams scored 28 points in the opening half and 39 points in the second half to send the game into the extra session for the first time in Newberry's season.

Terrance Spillers (Charleston, S.C.) scord two free throws to give Newberry a 69-67 lead, but a three-pointer by Stoney Polite gave Mars Hill the lead for good.

The Lions extended the lead to 80-73 with 27 seconds remaining, and while Newberry got the ball in its hands multiple times, the shots just wouldn't fall.

Cory Etheridge (Columbia, S.C.) scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Indians, while SAC Player of the Week Clemente Martin (Freeport, Bahamas) scored 12 points and snagged nine boards.

Matt Alexander (Atlanta, Ga.) only scored two points but grabbed five rebounds and dished out six assists.

Newberry outrebounded Mars Hill, 43-34, but only shot 41.4% (24-of-58) from the floor.

Newberry travels to Hickory, N.C. on Wednesday for a matchup with sister school Lenoir-Rhyne College. Tipoff at Shuford Gym is scheduled for 8 p.m.
